DIY Journals

One way to promote engagement in the classroom (whether in the ACTUAL classroom or at home… thank you, covid) is to provide the kids with a fun activity. Something they can make in class and use both in class and at home. What about using some things I’m sure you already have lying around the house to make a fun travel journal? These can be used to take notes during class and mark the state Capital(s) or to draw pictures of fun landmarks around your state.

This activity isn’t just for you teachers, either! Parents, Grandparents, etc. - use these instructions and help your kiddos make their very own journal. And why not make one for yourself while you’re at it?!

There is a link to download the maps (at the bottom of the page).

Click here to download the Alabama map for the inside front cover. Here is the link to the Georgia map, and here is the South Carolina map.

When you print these, chose “landscape” printing and either “full size” or “fit to page” and it will print perfectly for your book.
